the latest at this hour. >>> the u.s. unemployment rate in august climbed 0.1% to 9.6. non-farm payroll employment was down for the third month in a row. the u.s. labor department released the figures on friday. 54,000 jobs were lost in august in the non-farm sector were sensitive to economic trends, >>> nine patients at a hospital in tokyo have died after exposure to a drug-resistant bacterium during treatment there. the university hospital announced that the patients died between october 2009 and august of this year after being infected with a bacteria. >> translator: i'm sorry, i should have consulted with a public agency earlier. >> the hospital told reporters on friday it detected the bacterium in 46 in-patients age 35 to 89 between august 2009 and last wednesday. 27 of the infected patients have died and nine of those deaths have been linked to the infection. the nine patients had weakened immune systems due to conditions include leukemia and kidney failure. it rarely infects healthy people but could be fatal to those with low immunity causing pneumonia and blood pois

the shark. the man who wrote the notorious sitcom in u.s. history, or episode i should say, defends what he did with the fawns. maybe she's right. the show starts right now. well, apparently the president thinks if we keep printing money we don't have, ignore the ongoing extraction that's plaguing our country, eventually the economy will turn around. forget fixing the system that keeps all the capital with the select few who gamble it or incentivize those with capital to take it out of the country? why would you do that? call it free trade. the president's latest proposal, i should say, a spending tree of $50 on new infrastructure spending. now that we don't need the infrastructure, it's interesting to spend the money we don't have while you leave a giant hole in the bucket seeping out of the country. the president's plan to rebuild 150,000 miles of roads, 4,000 miles of rail line. critics lining up calling the president's plan an ineffective one that will plunge us further into debt. of course, the republicans no more ready to address our real problems, just happy to take the job of screwi

months ago this week, a top to bottom overhaul of u.s. health care, an overhaul that presidents dating back to teddy roosevelt have contemplated, debated, or attempted. six months ago, it was sign into law by president obama. today as you may have seen live here on cnn, the president talking about provisions of that law that come into force this week. this is the first of that health care bill. it's what the white house calls a patients' bill of rights. he's just about the only democrat who is going to use health and reform in the same sentence because the reason has to do with the calendar. we're 40 days away from the elections where every single house seat and 37 senate seats are up for grabs. voters are split to say the least. 40% of americans favor reform, 56% oppose it. there are some tricks to that poll because the 56% oppose, some oppose because it didn't go far enough. most say it's too liberal, but a sizable chunk says it doesn't go far enough. when we ask which party can handle the issue better, it's a dead heat. all of this forms a backdrop to the president's visit to a fami

is going to break it down for us. what do these plans do with all that money? >> first off, the $50 billion infrastructure program would rebuild or build 150,000 miles of road, 4000 miles of railroad track, 115 miles of airport runways. essentially, that would be paid for with taxes on the oil and gas industries. it's a six-year program, no new jobs created immediately, and much of the criticism is that it is essentially a payoff to the unions. there is a second plan to be unveiled tomorrow, the "wall street journal" saying that this is a $200 billion plan, $200 billion worth of tax breaks for businesses. it would speed up the writeoff, for example, bill, you spend $10,000 on a computer right now, and immediately, that $10,000 comes off your business income, taxable business income. overall, no new jobs created immediately, some say that this is the president scrambling because his polls on the economy are looking very, very bad, and both of those plans would require a vote in congress, which is not likely. bill: wow, so here we are, post labor day. i can't think of a bigger issue in the co
